The first section of the A line opened on 12 August 1978, four years after the C line. Prague residents gained their first metro transfer point at Muzeum station. When it was opened, the A line was 4.7 km long and had seven stations, all of them deep underground, except the final Leninova (Lenin) station (now Dejvická). Tickets throughout the Prague public transport network had all been for single journeys, but Muzeum was now the only place in the city where riders could change means of transport free of charge.
